Nagercoil ("Temple of the Nāgas"Nagaraja Temple

'Nagercoil Cloves’ is a distinct quality of dried cloves in the spices market, noted for its aroma. Cloves, pepper and other spices are grown in estates in the Western Ghats, outside the town.

Cloves are renowned for providing their uniquely warm, sweet and aromatic taste to the wide range of dishes that they are used in. Cloves can easily overpower a dish, particularly when ground, so only a few need be used.

Product Description

Cloves are best bought whole as flavour quickly deteriorates when powdered. The word ‘clove’ is from the Latin word for ‘nail’ – clavus which they resemble in appearance. Cloves are often used to enhance the flavour of meats, curries, and meat marinades. They are used whole in several curries and also fried with other whole spices like peppercorns, cardamom and cinnamon as a garnish in biriyani and pulao. In India they make an appearance in many sweets, notably the boondi ladoo.
Cloves are an excellent source of manganese. They are also a very good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin K, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. They are also a good source of magnesium and calcium. The oil in cloves has a numbing effect on mouth tissues and is often used to provide relief from toothaches.

CARDAMOM SPECIAL
KERALA IDUKKI SPICES CENTRE

Description

Cardamom is often referred as the “Queen of Spices” because of its very pleasant aroma and taste. It is one of the most expensive spices, but only a little is needed to impart the flavour.

Product Description

Cardamom is one of the world’s very ancient spices. Cardamom has a strong, unique taste, with an intensely aromatic, resinous fragrance and is used as an essential garnish in biryanis and pulaos.. It is a common ingredient in Indian cooking and is often used in traditional Indian sweets and in masala chai (spiced tea). It is best stored in pod form because once the seeds are exposed or ground, they quickly lose their flavour.

MAP OF MUMBAI

Mumbai Map

Mumbai map primarily features two separate regions - Mumbai City district (Island City or South Mumbai) and Mumbai Suburban district, which are the twin distinct revenue districts of Maharashtra. The city of Mumbai itself is spread across an area of 603.4 km2 (233 sq mi). It is situated at the cavity of Ulhas River on the western coast of India known as the Konkan coast. As per the map of Mumbai, the city faces the Arabian Sea to its west.
Mumbai city gets its water supply for domestic, industrial and agriculture use from the Bhatsa Dam, and six major lakes namely Vihar, Lower Vaitarna, Upper Vaitarna, Tulsi, Tansa and Powai. Mumbai map shows the coastline having been divided with a number of creeks and bays, ranging from the Thane creek on the eastern front to Madh Marve on the western front.
Mumbai’s soil is mainly sandy owing to its closeness to the sea. The suburban soil cover is by and large alluvial and loamy. The elemental rock of Mumbai is made of black Deccan basalt flows, and their acidic and basic versions belong to the late Cretaceous and early Eocene eras. Like Delhi and other Indian cities, Mumbai happens to be another seismically active zone due to the presence of 23 fault lines not too far from the region, and falls under the category of Seismic Zone III region, which implies that it is highly prone to an earthquake of up to magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale.

Mumbai Overview

Mumbai is the most populous metropolitan city in India. This city of dreams is a popular tourist destination throughout the year for various interesting sights, beaches, nightlife and most of all Bollywood. Located in Mumbai’s central area, Prabhadevi temple is the most revered Lord Ganesha’s temple not only of Maharashtra but in fact in all of India.

About The Mumbai Metro

In Mumbai, the financial capital of India, the existing suburban rail system was under extreme pressure; more than 11 million people travel by public transport daily. Due to the practical constraints in expanding the existing road and rail networks many pockets in the suburbs and the Island city could not be connected by rail based transport system. With the aim of improving traffic and transportation scenario in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority in conjunction with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) prepared the Master Plan for Mumbai Metro. Priority was given to the areas that were not connected by existing Suburban Rail System. Metro would provide interchange facilities for connecting neighbouring areas like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Vasai, Virar etc.

The long wait of the commuters of Mumbai for the much-needed relief came to an end with the launch of metro line in the city. The Mumbai metro service was launched in the city on 8 June 2014, around 10:10 in the morning. It was flagged off by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan at the Versova station. The chief minister took a ride from Versova to Ghatkopar (Line 1) in the metro. Also, the ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani were present at the inauguration. The line became functional for the common public at 1 p.m.

Mumbai Trans Harbour Metro Link (MTHL) corridor has been planned by MMRDA from Prabhadevi to Sewri moving further to the Mainland through Navi Mumbai on the Panvel-Pen section. This link will accelerate development on the mainland and also facilitate decongestion on other transport systems.

Why Metro Rail in Mumbai is needed?

Metro system is much preferred in any city for its high-capacity and attractive features. Metro trains move fast and are environment-friendly; they also offer excellent financial viability.

However, if considered from the point of view of Mumbai, the metro system is/ was much needed for following reasons:

  • Several pockets in the city and its suburban areas are not connected by rail-based mass transit system
  • For the protection of environment
  • Limitations that are faced in the expansion of road network
  • Present rail and road scenario not apt for future travel needs
  • The role of bus system is limited in the area of offering feeder services to railways
  • Bus network alone cannot match the future travel demands.

Mumbai Local Train Map

Mumbai Local Train Map

The Mumbai local train rail network runs from one end of the city to the other, from north to south. It's divided into three lines -- Western, Central, and Harbour lines.

What to Know?

  • The three lines of the Mumbai local rail network fall into two zones of Indian Railways. Western Railway is responsible for services on the Western Line, while Central Railway operates the services on the Central Line and the Harbour lines.
  • The numbers next to the stations on the map represent approximate distances, in kilometers, from the originating station.
  • The Western Line starts at Churchgate, in Mumbai's business district, and follows the city's west coast about 124 kilometers north to Dahanu Road (towards Ahmedabad).
  • The Central and Harbour lines both commence at Chhatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (Victoria Terminus) just north of the Fort area in Mumbai.
  • The Central Line runs out towards the northeast of city, through Thane, and branches off when it reaches Kalyan. From there, it divides into two corridors, to Kasara (towards Nashik) and Khopoli (towards Pune).
  • The Harbour line branches off at Wadala Road, and from there runs to Andheri and Panvel (through Navi Mumbai).
  • The Western and Central lines converge at Dadar station, while the Harbour and Central lines interchange at Kurla. The Harbour Line also joins the Western Line at Mahim Junction.
  • Although the train lines fall into different zones, it's possible to change trains and travel on different lines without having to buy separate tickets for each one. Tickets are sold at the originating station on a point to point (destination to destination) basis. (There is also a new Mumbai Metro train line from Andheri to Ghatkopar. However, this requires a separate ticket).
  • The Western and Central lines have both Fast and Slow train services, while there are only Slow trains on the Harbour Line. Slow trains stop at all stations. The Fast trains will stop at major stations (indicated in red on the map), and some semi-fast ones will stop at additional stations.
  • Most trains start running from around 4 a.m., and the last departures from Churchgate and CST are at around 1 a.m. There are a few trains that depart later though. Western Railway trains tend to be more frequent and punctual.

MANTRALAYA MUMBAI

Mantralaya is the administrative headquarters of the state government of Maharashtra in South Mumbai, built in 1955.
Mantralaya was earlier known as Sachivalaya. (Sachiv- Secretary, Alaya- House, meaning House of Secretaries, situated in caleed Secretariat). The headquarters of most State Governments in India are called Secretariats. However, since Ministers (Mantri in Marathi) also sit in the same building and to underline the fact that Ministers are powerful in a democracy, the name was changed to Mantralaya in the early eighties.
Mantralaya is a seven storeyed building which houses most of the departments of the state government in this building. The Chief Minister sits on the sixth floor. The Chief Secretary, sits on the sixth floor. Due to an increasing number of departments and staff, a new "annexe" building was built. Also, a new administrative building of 19 floors was constructed opposite Mantralaya to accommodate additional departments.
